Health.Harvard.edu states, 4 in 10 Americans use herbal supplements for relief of psychiatric disorders. There is so very little help for mental health suffering that supplements are often used because they are easy to obtain and many times, the client gains benefit from the nutritional aspect of herbals because PLANTS/HERBS are food! Plants feed the body and the mind. Plants have vitamins and minerals that support cells. They are not a quick cure but in digesting herbals, the benefit is that cells respond and are energized by plant based supplements and foods. Some herbals that have research to support their efficacy; Omega 3 fish oil, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin B complex, Chamomile, Catnip, Lavender. There are many other plants and research continues to place value on their benefit in every area of mental health listed in the DSM. As a certified naturopath, I have seen clients benefit from suggestions made and as a client, I can attest to my own improved mental wellness from many herbal supplements. My very first supplement, Vitamin B complex was given to me by my physician 30 years ago. It changed my whole world! If you would like a consultation with me, drop me a message and as always consult your Health Care Practitioner.
