Very popular plant found in Japan and Taiwan, used in Eastern Medicine as a tonic and treatment for tuberculosis, lower back pain, tinnitus, and reversing and preventing graying of hair. Only to be used 2-3 days, comes in two forms, "white" unprocessed Fo-ti and "red" processed. It has been said to bolster mental clarity and longevity, but in Western medicine this is not validated by study.

Contraindications include liver and kidney disease. Do not use Fo-ti if you have either or take medications for either or diabetes. Pregnant and nursing women should not use this. These statements are made under the site of Dr. Weil.
