Herbs are Food

Herbs are food. Our bodies were made to respond to nutrients from foods. Put in junk and over the years, that builds up as free radicals (oxidative stress), plaquing (cholesterol), weight gain or even weight loss, and disease. We have lost contact as a culture with the value of food. It has been used for years to comfort, entertain and cover emotions.

My thoughts on food have come from my own story. I was raised on a farm and in the south. We fixed our own foods, grew our own foods and slaughtered our own foods. That sounds great, but the problem was, I was taught to eat three big meals a day, that contained, nutrient dead foods that were over cooked, too many calories and too many carbs. I do not remember a day that I didn't "feel fat". At 20, I became anorexic. I was working out 4-5 days a week, 3 hours at a time. I was living on cigarettes and Mountain Dew to "stimulate" me. I went from 165lb and a size 12 to 120lb and a size 2. I was not well in thinking and I was not well in eating. I was healed of this issue at age 24!

I began my search for health, I realize now, almost from birth. Wondering, how does one stay well, not take or need medications and what does eating have to do with it? I began getting answers about age 24 and the icing on the cake, so to speak, at age 28, when I learned of Iridology and herbs. I was sick before that with allergies, seasonal and to cats and pitted produce plus I had migraines horribly (4-5 a day, 4-5 days a week) and painfully long menses. My boys were struggling with allergies, sinus issues, ear infections, asthma and numerous other problems. When I learned that herbals feed us, we began changing our diet and included herbals. Within one year, we were 80% improved and within the second year, we were without medications, healthy and not suffering with the symptoms listed above! I was sold! I became a convert to natural health! I determined to learn all I could.

When using herbals, please remember, unlike foods, they can be more concentrated and what works for your neighbor, friend or family member, may not work for you! Consult with a professional before starting herbals if you have health concerns or are taking medications! Herbs fill gaps in the body where missing links occur. In doing this, it allows our body to heal with speed and accuracy. Herbals come in the forms they do, because most of us won't sit down to a plate of aloe or nettles or dandelion. It is more palatable to ingest them in pills, capsules or liquids. Herbs contain vitamins and minerals. Examples; black walnut is the highest source of magnesium and alfalfa is the highest source of vitamin K. Every plant has a purpose and to eat that plant with wisdom, is healthful!

Here's to Herbal Food Health! Cheers!
